The problem
The Sparrho community had issues understanding what needed to be done when landing on the dashboard after creating an account. The lack of instructions, the overlap of multiple searches moving users away from the main dashboard and the lack of hierarchy were making the users feel lost and spending hours finding similar content while editing or updating pinboards which resulted in fewer updated items pinned. Fewer Grants applications and less content generated through the community. That overloaded the internal editorial team in producing scientific content to be integrate with the healthcare client websites.

The constraints
The project constraints were caused by the lack of human resources available on engineering and editorial team:

The accuracy of the content provided by the elastic search not excluding the items already pinned, limited the recommendations, as they were allowed to upload external files.
- The content provided by the elastic search required the review of human resources. It also made the engineering team automatically restrict recommendations triggered by a “related content” button to at least 4 recommendations
The challenge
Ana’s challenge was to create a single journey integrating the previous journey, which was also a design decision, that would:
- Allowed users to update and create new pinboards
- Make sure while creating new or updating pinboards, users would have at least 8 items pinned
- Deal with the platform constraints and lack of accuracy of the search engine results which conditioned the designs
